Your therapy sessions will take place in a safe space, where I will listen with respect and empathy - and without judgement. Confidentiality and trust are key aspects of our therapeutic relationship, and counselling will give you an opportunity to openly express your thoughts and feelings; maybe even for the first time. Ask yourself - "what does this mean to me?"
Many people face stress and difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to cope with – whether it’s relationship issues; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or feelings of depression, dealing with the mental health effects of Covid or other issues. Being truly heard will help you to gain a better understanding of what’s causing these challenges - and enable us to explore the ways in which you can either manage them differently or change their outcome.
By working together in a collaborative way, I can help you gain an insight into the difficulties you are facing with life and relationships, and help you understand why you act or react to stressors in the way you do. This will facilitate you to explore and embrace the developmental stages of change and growth into realising your full potential, or unmasking your ideal self.
"Working with Sherryl has quite literally changed my life. I had experienced a lot of things that left me feeling confused, angry, resentful and unsure of who I was, what I wanted, how to process my feelings and emotions. I felt very stuck and sad and like I was holding on to past hurts and also things I'd never processed or understood.
The biggest thing I've gained from my sessions with Sherryl was self-awareness. Understanding my own thoughts, feelings and actions, and how sometimes those actually took me away from what I wanted and how I wanted to feel. It's given me a new perspective on pretty much all my relationships and how they look and feel.
I feel so much freer, definitely much happier and lighter. It's a work in progress, and I know I may have times where I need support again, which is why it's so great to know Sherryl is there! But I'm feeling really good about myself, so much clearer about what I want and what in my life makes me feel good, safe and loved."
"What I liked about Sherryl from the very first session is that she instantly created a safe space for me by taking her time to tell me about who she was, her style of counselling and the way she worked.
She told me what counselling was and was not, and she did not assume that I would immediately trust her with my thoughts and feelings simply because she was a therapist. Sherryl's level of humility and capacity to understand how daunting it feels 'on the other side' of therapy and the intelligent ways in which she asked for permission to enter into mind and heart is what drew me to her, and it was a breath of fresh air"
"As an action-focussed, goal-oriented person, it did take quite a few sessions for me to understand that Sherryl would not give me homework after every (or indeed any) session, and that the real work was and continues to be in the processing, in the feeling and in the acknowledgement of said feelings. I will continue to take this with me going forward. Thank you, Sherryl!"
